Identity theft and confidentiality of information is becoming the number one concern when it comes to e-commerce risk management and legal compliance. News stories appear at an increasing pace telling of compromised applications containing private information. Legislatures and courts have begun to recognize the identity problem and are writing new laws and enforcing old laws placing tough new requirements on those service providers who use personally identifiable information (PII) whether on the Internet, by telephone or in person. Accordingly, organizations are being asked to reduce risk by not only protecting information they collect, but also assuring they use the least amount of PII possible. With identity theft on the rise, organizations need to work harder to ensure the information they receive is accurate, used appropriately and uses only information that is deemed necessary. The Identity Governance Framework (IGF) will help enterprises easily determine and control how identity-related information, including PII, access entitlements, attributes, etc., are used, stored, and propogated between their systems. IGF enables organizations to define enterprise-level policies to securely and confidently share sensitive personal information between applications that need such data, without having to compromise on business efficiency or agility. Furthermore, it will ease the burden of documentation and auditing of these controls. This webcast provides an update in the IGF work, focusing on the privacy safeguards it enables.

Identity Governance Framework OpenLiberty Project

This presentation reviewed the Identity Governance Framework, a technical spec currently being developed parallel track within Liberty's Technology Expert Group, as well as Open Source code released through the OpenLiberty.org activity. A technical walk through is presented, allowing attendees to see that with proper governance, the sharing of personal information can reduce information collection, improve privacy, reduce liability, and improve business accuracy, workflow, and profitability.

IDDY Award Winner Case Study: NTT Enables SSO to a PC with Strong Authentication Via a Mobile-Phone

NTT Labs has developed SASSO, a personal Identity Provider that enables users to single-sign-on to a PC and leverage the strong authentication capabilities of the mobile phone to conduct a wide range of secure identity-based transactions. SASSO uses the increasingly ubiquitous mobile phone as an Identity Provider (IdP) to allow users to access a Service Provider (SP). Once authenticated by their own mobile phone, the IdP on the mobile phone issues a SAML assertion signed by a private key and sends that assertion to SPs. The application drives strong authentication into online transactions and leverages the convenience and privacy capabilities of the mobile phone to allow users to better control their own identity information.
