Fidelity Investments Disclosure

Under the terms set forth in section 4 of the Sponsor’s Agreement Disclosure of Patents FMR Corp and Fidelity Investments (“Fidelity”) is notifying the Management Board of the existence of NECESSARY CLAIMS that it has determined cover material in V1.1DRAFT of the Liberty Alliance Specification.

The Patent in Fidelity is disclosing pursuant to section 4 is registered with the United States Patent Office and has been granted Patent 5,991,878 Controlling Access to Information. Fidelity believes that within the draft liberty architecture bindings and profiles v1.1-16, at least, but not limited to patent claims 2, 3, 4 and 16 are described in section 3.6 of the aforementioned document:

1. A method of controlling access to information in a distributed computing system, the method comprising:

receiving a request for the information, the request accompanied by encrypted session state data, the encrypted session state data being valid for a limited duration; and
based on the encrypted session state data, determining whether to pass the request to a source of the information.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising:
providing the encrypted session state data as a generic cookie.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the encrypted session state data defines an information-accessing session.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the encrypted session state data includes a unique identifier for an information-accessing session.

15. Computer software, residing on a computer-readable storage medium, comprising instructions for use in a computer system to controlling access to information in a distributed computing system, the instructions causing the computer system to:

receive a request for the information, the request accompanied by encrypted session state data, the encrypted session state data being valid for a limited duration; and

based on the encrypted session state data, determine whether to pass the request to a source of the information.

16. The computer software of claim 15, wherein the computer software further comprises instructions for causing the computer system to:
provide the encrypted session state data as a generic cookie.

Proposed License Terms

Pursuant to the Liberty Alliance Specification Sponsor Agreement, Fidelity would grant to any other person or legal entity a royalty-free, nonexclusive, nontransferable, license under Fidelity’s NECESSARY CLAIMS to implement the FINAL SPECIFICATION and OTHER OUTPUT, and sell, promote or otherwise distribute the resulting implementation. Such a license would require that those who seek licenses agree to grant reciprocal, royalty-free, non-exclusive, nontransferable licenses under their NECESSARY CLAIMS to Fidelity and its affiliates that are necessary to implement the FINAL SPECIFICATIONS and OTHER OUTPUT.
